Hi there, and welcome to Winter Sharks! This is a blog updated once in a blue moon to discuss my passion for writing instruments and the post, along with the occasional poorly written essay. Due to ongoing commitments and budgetary restraints, I don’t have the resources I would like to in order to review products. However, I will do my best to keep you, the reader, updated on what I do have and enjoy.
The question I ask when I review a product is whether or not it works suitably for me in a given situation. I try not to give negative reviews if I can help it; I always want to find a niche that something can fill. However, as you might imagine, there are definitely products out there that just don’t work no matter how hard you work at it. I attempt to be as unbiased as possible, but I want to share with you my honest experiences with everything I review. As with all things on the Internet, your experiences with the exact same products could be wildly different. My review should not be the only one you read; rather, I hope that you take it as a piece of the puzzle, an addition to other information you gather.
This information will also be posted on all reviews.
Ink: All ink reviews are performed with a Jinhao X450. The pen will be fitted with a medium stock nib as well as a Nemosine broad nib, then dipped into the ink. All reviews will be done on Midori MD paper.
Pen: All pen reviews are performed on Midori MD paper. The ink used in these reviews will vary, but my current hope is that they will be done with Pilot black.
Paper: All paper reviews will incorporate all of the pens that I currently have inked. These pens, as well as their inks, will be listed both in the image posted with the review, as well as the post itself.
I am currently sponsored in part by the writing community of Massdrop. I am sent samples of products to try out. Other, full-size products (like pens) are sent to me in a loaner program and returned to Massdrop after my review is complete.
If you are a distributor looking for someone to review a product, I will not take compensation for a review. However, I will work to ensure that a product is reviewed in a timely manner. I think that’s only fair!
I want to be as open as I possibly can about how I get the products that are featured on this site. I will disclose immediately and clearly whether or not this item was provided to me at no charge. If I am given a product by a company, I insist on receiving the product as a loaner item only. I am personally uncomfortable with the idea of having an item given to me when I’m just a regular ol’ person doing some reviews on the Internet.
I am a Californian of Taiwanese descent, born and raised in the South Bay. I’m a graphic designer, writer, junior coder, communications jockey, and ice hockey player. I’m currently pursuing a humanities B.A. at a public research university in Northern California.
